Spotted: Digital copy downloads of the Cruise Compass

royal caribbean blog cruise compass

There is a new copy every day that contains times and locations for activities, special events, show times and more. Some guests are seeing a new way to get a copy of the daily guide to events on their Royal Caribbean cruise. It points out the cool stuff on different ships, like Allure of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, and Wonder of the Seas. With the Compass in hand, you’re all set to have the best time, making every moment count. Just use your phone’s camera on the QR code, and you’ll get a link to the digital copy.

Love Cruising? Then Follow Us on Social Media

Instead, they now prefer you to download a digital copy of the cruise compass. It helps passengers make the most of their time on the ship by providing a detailed schedule of all of the daily events and makes it easy for everyone to plan their days at sea. On some Royal Caribbean ships, printed copies have not been automatically distributed to all guests. Some guests have reported the need to request a copy be delivered by their stateroom attendant, or go down to Guest Services for a copy. It lists everything happening on the ship, so you can pick what you like and make sure you don’t miss anything fun or important.

Oasis of the Seas 7-night Bahamas and Perfect Day Cruise Compass - May 7, 2023

Royal Caribbean says you’re able to have a copy delivered if you request one from your steward, but this hasn’t been a reliable option on my RCI cruises this year so far. Compasses are only available post-cruise, but you can look for similar recent sailings on Anthem. Send readers directly to specific items or pages with shopping and web links. To help our readers it would be great to be able to show examples of the Cruise Compass from all the ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet.

But I think they recognize that their App is a long way from being perfect. A great strategy for managing this page is to use a highlighter and mark off any events of interest for easy reference later. At the bottom of the page, you will find the drink of the day, which features one cocktail that can be purchased at a discount. If you do not have an unlimited alcohol package, this can be a good value. Opening up the Cruise Compass, you will find more events, sales and other offers. The first page also includes a section of "Important things to know today".

Activities are broken down by time of day (morning, afternoon, evening) and provides a chronological list of events throughout the ship. Some events are not repeated while other activities can change daily, so it is in your best interest to track what is happening so you do not miss any of it. You can also find listed special offers or discounts available for dining, drinks, onboard merchandise purchases and even shopping in port. Experience the rich history and dynamic culture of Boston with our top list of shore excursions. Our expertly curated guide features the essential attractions and hidden gems of this iconic American city, making your cruise stopover in Boston an unforgettable experience.

It also provides details about the amazing ports you’ll visit and so much more. It’s easy to pack into your bag or pocket so that you don’t skip a beat! Plan your cruise your way and enjoy everything your ship has to offer.

First time cruiser's guide to Royal Caribbean's Cruise Compass

It’s a great way to stay organized and informed about everything happening on the ship. On every Royal Caribbean cruise I’ve been on (which is a LOT!), one of the last things I do every evening is to have a quick read-through of the following day’s Cruise Compass. By reading an old Cruise Compass, you can prepare yourself for activities and events that you might want to participate in, such as themed dance parties, sporting events and anything inbetween.

SEARCH

Royal Caribbean does not post or publish Cruise Compasses for upcoming sailings in advance. Nor do they publish their entertainment schedules prior to a cruise. With that in mind, many veteran Royal Caribbean cruisers reference past Cruise Compasses to get an idea of what to expect on an upcoming sailing. Teenagers get their own planner too, specifically for kids that are years old.

While the app is designed to mirror the printed Compass, in practice, there have been discrepancies from time to time between the two. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached, or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Royal Caribbean Blog. Whether you’re on a quick 3-night trip to the Bahamas or a longer 13-night journey through the Southern Caribbean, there’s something for everyone. It’s hard to say if the app will fully replace the Cruise Compass. With ongoing improvements, it looks like we’re moving towards digital. On our last trip on the Wonder of the Seas in September 2023, the app was pretty good, though finding certain info could be clunky.

It offers you insight into the next day's weather, which bars will have drink specials, shore excursion information and much more. For years, the printed Cruise Compass was the only option, but Royal Caribbean's app has also offered a list of activities. On Liberty of the Seas, guests have the option to get a digital download of the Cruise Compass directly to their phone in the form a PDF file. Traditionally passengers receive a copy each evening in their stateroom that outlines the following day's events.

Royal Caribbean might stop making the Cruise Compass one day, but it seems like they know the app isn’t quite there yet. Trying to read the Cruise Compass on a phone can be a hassle because the screen is so small. The app has all the info you find in the Cruise Compass, but they look pretty different. In this article, I’ll show you how it makes every cruise unforgettable.

Fun at Sea on The Carnival Sunshine

sunshine cruise ship carnival

Oh, you know, a little of this, a little of that… and really, a lot of fun. Basically, think of Ocean Plaza as an indoor entertainment spot that plays host to live music events, plus trivia, dance classes, games and more. And while all that’s going on, it never leaves you far from all the sunny, breezy goodness you get from the great outdoors of the sea.

Where does Carnival Sunshine sail to?

Guests have told us we hit on something special with the cool Caribbean chill of the RedFrog Pub. We've taken the best parts and brought them poolside with the RedFrog Rum Bar, where the frog keeps the fun hopping day and night with all the island flava you know and love. Our video arcade boasts a huge array of games, and is open to players of all ages, all night and all day.

Carnival Sunshine Dress Code

Carnival's Cloud 9 Spa thermal suites are dedicated relaxation zones with a variety of available environments, each carefully developed by our master climate artists. The 1996-built/2013-reconstructed Carnival Sunshine cruise ship was initially named "Carnival Destiny". After a major refurbishment in 2013 (USD155 million drydock), the vessel was renamed Sunshine. As class, Carnival Sunshine was the first of three Destiny-class Carnival ships - together with Victory-Radiance and Triumph-Sunrise. Find out which fun ingredients — staterooms, dining, activities — go into each deck. Colors are subtle, and the palette throughout -- from the main dining rooms to the corridors and cabins -- is distinctly muted.

Aft-View Extended Balcony

sunshine cruise ship carnival

Spacious accommodations are featured on Carnival Sunshine, with most of the outside cabins also featuring balconies and sitting areas. Feel right at home on the line's acclaimed ultra-comfy mattresses. Spa staterooms provide private access to the spa and more, plus have relaxing spa-related amenities. Carnival Sunshine offers a bevy of restaurant and bar choices.

Some are included in the cost of the cruise, while others have an additional charge. From the moment you board this cruise, you can still feel how truly old it is. First, it's the 21st century and I still have to print a boarding pass. The last time I printed any kind of ticket was like 10 years ago. As to the ship, what areas they may have updated in 2019 still feel a decade old, and everything just looks incomplete.

Suite (SS)

We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. The Grand Suites are even larger, with extra room features such as dressing areas with vanities. Do note, that there is a big difference between the porthole ocean-view staterooms and the ocean-view staterooms, so be sure to choose your stateroom accordingly. Each stateroom offers basic amenities like a flat-screen TV, hairdryer and non-stocked mini bars in select rooms.

Certain areas -- the corridor on Deck 5 with Fahrenheit 555, the Piano Bar, Ocean Plaza and the main dining rooms -- could actually do with more decor, as they're so featureless. The Sunshine Casino on Deck 5 midship was popular with passengers on my sailing. Every time I walked through, it was buzzing with activity (although, as previously mentioned, I didn't spend a lot of time there). The venue is a maze of slot machines, with a collection of poker tables, a craps table, two roulette tables and several blackjack tables.

Feature port destinations include Bahamas (with Nassau and line’s private island Half Moon Cay), Puerto Rico, Saint Thomas USVI, Grand Turk, Roatan, Belize, Mexico (Costa Maya and Cozumel). In 2016, the ship started itineraries to Bermuda - 7-day from NYC New York and 5-day from Norfolk Virginia. Carnival made a heavy investment in lights and sound for its shows on Carnival Breeze and has taken a step further on Sunshine. An ultra-HD graphics package is beamed onto a vast screen and the performers use it as a backdrop of their show. A number of themed shows take place in ship's Liquid Lounge, which doubles as the 800-seat main Theater. Because the room was initially designed as a theater with two stories, it's impossible to feature an intimate atmosphere.

With more space for stretching out indoors, plus a large balcony for kicking back outdoors, try an Ocean Suite to experience private, luxurious relaxation. Ocean Suites also include VIP check-in, walk-in closet and bathroom with whirlpool tub. Our cabin was an aft (back of the ship) balcony cabin on Deck 5.

JiJi offers a full-service menu featuring a mix of exotic and familiar dishes designed to challenge and delight your senses. Standard inside, ocean-view and balcony cabins each feature two twin beds that form a king when combined. Cabins boast decent storage options, including couches with inset drawers, bedside tables with shelves, and closets. There are two 120-volt U.S.-style outlets and one Euro-style 230-volt outlet atop a small vanity in each cabin, under which you'll find an ottoman-style seat. A Cloud 9 Spa Suite is the ultimate in both stateroom and spa accommodations.

The menu offers up Mexican favorites, including several brands of tequila and a slew of Mexican brews. There’s a lineup of frozen concoctions, cocktails and margaritas served by the glass or by the pitcher, and even a special Mexican beer cocktail (yes, really). So stay cool and take in the bar’s vacation vibe while you kick back on your cruise – that’s what official bar mascot Blue the Iguana would tell you. You’ll enjoy your meal among Asian prayer rolls and Mongolian-inspired fabrics that infuse northern-country style into this unique culinary experience.

These feature unique decor that’s intended to provide a more relaxing setting (than maybe the jarring bright orange and blue interiors that you’ll find elsewhere). The decor incorporates light green hues and light woods, for a fresh airy feel. Guests here receive priority spa reservations and amenities, such as unlimited use of thermal suites, complimentary body composition analyses, complimentary fitness classes and more. Every Carnival ship features an onboard library stocked with the good stuff. BlueIguana Tequila Bar is the onboard spot to chill and enjoy a slushy tequila drink or an ice-cold Mexican cerveza.

The Sunshine ship's interior design was done by Partner Design (Hamburg-based company). The new ship now features modern amenities, new venues, more dining options, new onboard entertainment program (3 new grand show productions). Carnival's South Carolina annual cruise shipping volume is approx 220,000 passengers. In Charleston, Carnival Sunshine will replace Carnival Ecstasy (to be relocated to Jacksonville Florida), while the Jacksonville-homeported Carnival Elation will be repositioned to Port Canaveral FL.

Carnival's Cloud 9 Spa on Deck 10 is the place to go for vacation pampering. Various treatments and therapies are available — from deep tissue and stone massages to acupuncture and other traditional Chinese techniques. Additionally, the spa offers hair and nail services, facials and medispa treatments. Tweens and teens have their own hangouts and activity schedules. Circle C is for cruisers ages 12 to 14, with events like dance parties, outdoor movies and group games. The Circle C space had a futuristic vibe with metal walls and a minimalist design.

TRAVEL LOG: Day 3-Castaway Cay & Pirate Night Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Dream

3 day disney cruise

This way you have more flexibility with flight times on the following day. This is an especially appealing idea if your Disney cruise sails out of Port Canaveral, Florida. For these reasons, you don't necessarily have to spend much on board to have a fantastic vacation. The cruise can be a good value depending on the extras you choose to add. What Disney does best — and why many people choose to cruise with the brand — is it provides a high level of service to families, even those in the least expensive cabins.

Day Cruise (but 4 Night Vacation)

3 day disney cruise

Shari is an experienced planner and organizer for Disney vacations, cruising, and U.S. travel. Her family vacation information, reviews, and tips provide insight for moms and dads everywhere. You can read more about her story, including her journey through breast cancer, in the about me page. There are a few restrictions on this deal, including that you must sail within 24 months of the onboard booking. If you aren’t sure which cruise to book on board, you can purchase a “placeholder” for $250. This holds the onboard booking deal until you choose the cruise to apply it to.

Your sailing has a Facebook group and it's worth joining

These are usually located on the pool deck and in the buffet area. Bring a refillable bottle so you can easily take your soda with you around the ship. Speaking of Facebook, the odds are excellent that your individual sailing has a Facebook group with several hundred people in it. You can keep things simple or order personalized magnets on a site like Etsy in advance of your sailing. You may see some doors that go all out and even have pouches with goodies in them. Those hanging pouches are known as fish extenders (as they hang off of a fish built into the ship).

Cobranded Cards

If, for some reason, your assigned order of restaurants or tablemates (if you have any) aren't working out, don't be shy about asking guest services to make alterations. They will connect you with the appropriate people within the dining team to make necessary adjustments. Unless you're staying in a concierge-level stateroom (more on that soon), room service on a Disney cruise is relatively basic.

Disney Wish Bahamas Cruise Review – Disembarkation

Overall, the trend was that the desserts on DCL shined over other cruise lines. For those that have cruised on Royal Caribbean, we would say the food was a step above the similar El Loco Fresh. Like usual, we started our Disney Wish ship tour all the way at the top on deck 14.

I hope that this blog post helps to illustrate the exceptional value we found in our 3-day Disney cruise. The best time to shop for any three-day cruise is right now -- meaning as soon as you think about going on one. That’s especially true if you are cruising over a popular three-day holiday weekend like President's Day, Memorial Day or Labor Day. It's never too early to book one and almost never too late, unless you are hoping for a three-day trip during Christmas week. Those should be booked well in advance and likely won’t be a bargain price regardless of when you book it. The premise of the show is that guests are attending an engagement party for Anna and Kristoff.

Further, there were no real options to customize salads or sandwiches as much of the selections were pre-made. Even the chicken tenders at the kid’s section of the buffet were not as fresh as those at the outdoor Festival of Foods. We figured that we could get our remaining photos and videos of the ship minus some of the crowds in the afternoon. A reservation allows guests to spend 45 minutes in this venue, which is plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and drinks.

Disney Cruise Disembarkation Time and Options

The real question is whether you want to spend more on the base cruise fare to immerse yourself in the world of Disney versus paying less for another family-friendly cruise line. Letting Disney choose your cabin can be a great way to get a deal on the cruise. These are known as guaranteed rates, and they are the cheapest fares in each category. All you have to do is pick your room type, such as inside, ocean view or balcony, and Disney picks which specific room number you get. This works best if you don't care where your room is on the ship.

How I Packed for a Disney Cruise With Just a Carry-on - Business Insider

How I Packed for a Disney Cruise With Just a Carry-on.

Posted: Wed, 23 Aug 2023 07:00:00 GMT [source]

The crew on Disney ships goes above and beyond to make your vacation easy. Even though many activities, dining options and entertainment are included in the cost of your cruise, you will find things to pay extra for on a Disney cruise. These may or may not be worth it for your family, depending on your budget and interests.

When it's time to eat, three spots serve an included barbecue lunch, complete with soft-serve ice cream. Coffee, tea and fountain drinks are also included at Castaway Cay. Additionally, adults have a dedicated pool and hot tub area that includes a bar and coffee shop.

The $3,326 price tag for a concierge-level cabin is very good; those cabins usually start at close to $800 to $1,000 higher on many other three-night sailings. When booking a Disney cruise, your best move is to book the cruise as soon as it becomes available. You'll have the best selection of cabins and generally the best prices.

There are a variety of novelty items you can purchase with the drinks. There are also water bottle refill stations at most of the water fountains. If you find the motion of the ocean to be a bit more than you bargained for, head to guest services, and they will give you — and your kids — motion sickness pills free of charge.

There is a lot to see and do on the new Disney Wish, and we wanted to make the most of it. Scoring a spirit jersey, inaugural t-shirt, and obligatory ship ornament, Don waited in the check out line while I headed to the theater to secure seats for tonight’s show. The chicken dish was a generous portion and was more on par with a dish from a specialty steakhouse on other cruise lines. This entrée was cooked to the perfect medium rare temperature and had just the right amount of seasoning.

Let’s be honest, a trip with Disney Cruise Line isn’t the cheapest way to travel. If you are looking for a budget friendly way to sail on Disney cruise ships, the three-day cruises are typically cheaper than those with longer itineraries. Like the Disney ships, Castaway Cay is designed with unique activities and areas for every age group, providing an exceptional experience for all guests. Whether you’re looking to spend time at the family beach or the adult area of Serenity Bay, you won’t have trouble finding things to do! Youth activities are also available, giving kids some extra fun and adults some time to enjoy the island by themselves. You'll get all that, plus you can board the ship first and skip the lines when disembarking.

These drinks cost anywhere from $5 to $8, depending on your order. You can also order alcoholic drinks from the coffee bars, which run the typical cocktail prices. There are a few “port adventure” options for Castaway Cay that guests can purchase if you’re looking for even more things to do. One package we love is the Castaway Cay Getaway Package, which costs $50 per adult for this cruise. The package is a discounted 3-in-1 rental that includes snorkel equipment, a float or inner-tube rental for the day, and a one-hour bicycle rental.

The onboard gift shops are only open while the ship is at sea, and the popular items sell out (and generally don't get restocked while you're on board). Actually, we were mislead when booking this transfer, as we were under the assumption that there would be multiple buses with the last one departing the cruise terminal at 9 AM. However, we proceeded to sit on the bus for the next hour along with some other unhappy guests. While we had made another reservation for the Hyperspace Lounge at 11 PM tonight, we decided to close out the evening at our favorite bar on the ship instead, The Bayou. Following dinner, it was on to the final show of the cruise in the main theater.
